Music Therapy Practicum Application

Application process

Our department’s educational opportunities work to support the overall VUMC mission statement on diversity and inclusion:

We will reflect the diversity of the populations we serve in our teams, programs and communications and be inclusive in our processes and decisions.

Learn more about our team’s approach to supporting an inclusive environment for education, work and care.

Students are required to have completed at least two practicums prior to applying for practicum at VUMC; however, students are highly encouraged to complete three practicums prior to applying.

Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt partners with Vanderbilt University Hospital to provide practicum opportunities. Student clinical rotations vary based on supervisor and student schedules and needs. Supervisors cannot guarantee a specific clinical rotation prior to acceptance. Practicum students may have opportunities to observe at both Monroe Carell and Vanderbilt University Hospital during their placement.

A complete music therapy practicum application must include the following:

  • Completed application (link below)
  • Current copy of academic transcripts (may be unofficial copies)
  • Resume
  • School guidelines/requirements for student education experience (hours per week, number of weeks, projects, journals, papers, etc.)
  • 5-minute clinical skills video (see application link for additional details/requirements)

Students accepted into the practicum must be enrolled in a college or university at the time of the proposed practicum, but not necessarily at the time of application.

If you have any questions, email our music therapists.
